FLASH BUTT WELDING
FBW (Flash butt welding) is a relatively new method (1930 ). It is comprised of 4 stages. Burn-off, Pre-heat, Flashing and Upsetting. In the railway track application it is used to produce CWR (continuous welded rail) where it has the advantage of producing welds of higher quality and tensile strength with a small HAZ compared to thermite welding (TW).The work space required for the FBW equipment does not make it the best choice for many applications.
